Last week Wade and I spent a morning picking blueberries at a local farm with some friends (Hi Kristen! :) . I have to say I was pretty impressed with myself that I not only got us somewhere at 9 in the morning, but it was 30 minutes away!
This sort of activity is the kind of thing I think I always thought my stay-at-home mothering would entail…the reality of 18 months in such a capacity may have jaded some of those dreams, but this little adventure was actually really fun for both of us. I feared Wade would have no interest in actually picking any berries and instead our time would be spent with me chasing him all over the fields. Much to my surprise, Wade followed along nicely and really enjoyed playing with some of the older kids (speaking of which, Philip and I are growing more and more convinced that what Wade really needs is an older sibling…). Once he realized that if he picked the little balls (read: berries) off the bushes he could place them in the bucket, he was quite focused and content to help me gather our fruit.
I wish I had taken some pictures of our friends who joined us, but here are some of the little dude.
{dark clothing is a must when dealing with a toddler and easily-smashed-in-all-the-wrong-places fruit!}
I’d love to be able to tell you all that Wade gobbled up the fruit that he appears to be eating, but alas, those anti-oxidant rich little berries only made it into his mouth for a quick sampling before they were promptly spit out. At least he tried them, right?…
Ah yes, I believe the above photo depicts said spitting out of berries.
My little helper!
I'm with you on the OLDER sibling! Anna would like a 3-4 year old sister or brother. She LOVES to play with the big kids. I told Brian we should adopt #2.
ReplyDeleteLove the photos! Your bump is adorable!
Yay! Thanks, Anne! I love the photos. I hear there is a blackberry farm somewhere. Let's go!
